Back to School OMS Care

It’s time for the kids to go back to classes, and that means school schedules and activities. It also means it may be time to think about back to school OMS care. Here are some of the reasons that this is an important season in your child’s oral health.

Timing

As students return to playing sports the risk of oral or facial injuries increases. When there is trauma it’s vital to correct the damage as soon as possible. This helps prevent further injury and breakdown of the structures. Proper repairs also help the teeth and soft tissue to regenerate.

You may also discover that your child needs their wisdom teeth removed. While oral surgery during the school year doesn’t seem ideal, this isn’t a procedure that should be put off any longer than necessary, because impacted wisdom teeth become more difficult to remove over time and can even lead to nerve damage and breakdown of bone tissue in the jaw. With a new school calendar in hand, this is the perfect time to schedule removal over a long weekend or break, so your child has time to recover.
